for a few minutes a player told me i need pro.
whit pro i can see the populations in the future.
he stop his trains and win the game?
how is this possible?

grow the city faster without traffic (trains & cars) ?

This player was talking about our client. Our community has added some features to the normal OTTD, which is the BTPro client. You can find it on here, on our forum:

One of those features is that it shows the expected population. Buildings take 3 months to finish, and the client calculates what the population will be when the buildings that are under construction are finished. So, when that number shows you're past the goal target, you stop transportation. When you grow, you don't only grow new houses, it also replaces existing ones now and then, by stopping transportation, you stop growth, which means you stop the replacing.
If you time this right in a close race, you can win it because you stopped in time, you can also get 1 or 2 minutes off the playing time this way.

But to be clear, there's no cheating or growing without doing anything or magic going on.
