Personally I never changed those, but I think it's doable. Hello TJ!

Maybe try this:
Look in openttd.cfg for:

small_font =
medium_font =
large_font =
small_size =
medium_size =
large_size =

and change to (eventually adjust the size):

small_font = Arial
medium_font = Arial
large_font = Arial
small_size = 14
medium_size = 16
large_size = 18

So your fonts are not so ugly anymore. I use this settings, too. And I think it looks much better.
