happens to me too (when downloading ONLY), even when the executables are compiled on my computer
I think it's due the fact that the exe file being inside of a zipped one.
the code changes are included and if you want, send the executable to AV company to be checked. Thanks for telling us, but file is clean.

who is creating/paying for this stuff, openttd, this client, the server?

To answer your question it is a combination of community donations and server owners paying for the upkeep of running two seperate servers to host our currently 18 OpenTTD games. Though donations do not over the majority of the costs to date.

The BTPro player client is made by our development team which consists ST2, working tirelessly to bring it up to date with each new OpenTTD release and by adding interesting and highly useful patches and customisations to bring a more enhanced experience for those that use it.

Then there is the other half of the development team which mainly consists of Frank bringing out new interesting gamemodes to work in a multiplayer environment such as the BTPro Citybuilder script.
