I want to strongly advocate for discord server too! (is there already a server?)

Communicating on IRC feels like sending FAX messages :D
I tried a few times, nobody ever answere me there. There is no chat history..

If u want to ask a single question about game - creating a forum topic feels cumbersome and the reply timer might be in days or weeks.

I get that the game is strongly tied to an IRC and migrating to (or setting up) something else has a lot of friction with it...
I'm very gratefull for BTPro still functioning all these years (I played few years back for a while) and It's super awesome that there is still a community of players enjoying OpenTTD. I'd like to help that community grow/keep rather than watching it die out. Also I would be more than happy to share some of my acquired gaming knowledge to newer players and it's simple not possible to do it here.

So here is my offer:
I can help someone (admin or moderators) to setup a discord server including channels, roles and right, bots etc.
---- OR ----
Make it myself and then grant those people roles there.

I've experimented with discord bot and I am able to setup a two-way communiaction between irc<->discord
which can help OGs use their prefered communication style ;)

TL;DR;
If there is a desire to have a discord server, but setting it up is too much time - I'm your man and I can help. Just let me know and we can discuss the details and preferences.

PS: While writing this message the forum froze and I had to do it once again.. iirc this was happening to me 6years ago too :/

Hi Aldoras :-)

Yeah, the forum software and its theme hasn’t changed much during the years :-)
Welcome back by the way :-)

I am currently developing a new server controller which also has a Discord bridge instead of IRC to control the servers.
However, its not ready yet and i’m struggling with time a bit (as usual) ;-)

github.com/Frank-0G/Sentinel

This is the Github source of the controller we (N-Ice (Chucky)) and myself are drafting, take a look and experiment with it if you like :-) pull request are always welcome!

I will continue with the development of Sentinel for now, if I switch to that controller we will also have Discord!

I didnt know it's either going all-in or nothing at all with the discord :D
I'll check the repo and maybe try a few things out, but it seems a bit overwhelming at first.
Also I don't know your plan and eventho it seems you using antigravity fro development, I'm not sure if I'm able to contribute without any background in OpenTTD development or servers management.

The problem is that the OpenTTD controller which we are using now is an old .NET controller which was written by a moderator of N-Ice which is not actively developing anymore. Furthermore we don't have the source code for this controller, which made me look for alternatives.
However, the alternative ofcourse is not so easy as to just plug and play, and hoping that it works. The controller needs to do the same (plus more) as the old controller. Lots of trial and error plus time has gone into it already, but it's still not production ready in my oppinion.
Until it's production ready we are running on the old controller, which doesn't have a Discord plugin. This is also hard to achieve, since some points needed for that are burried deep inside the controllers code, for which we don't have the source.
