I started a game - left company - tried to get back in and it says I cannot join without being invited first.
Did I do something wrong, or is this a glitch or a setting in games.

Where you using the same computer? Or did you make the company as an unregistered played? or did you login when you made it but didn't log in when rejoined the game straight away?

It happened to me as well. About an hour ago. I was playing for an hour when my internet connection went bad for a few seconds so i lost connection. I then wanted to rejoin the server and my company but wasn't able to ... Frustrating ...

And yes: I was using the same computer, i made company as registered user ...

well, when that happens, call an admin... by typing !admin Can't join my company
meanwhile, I stongly recommend to place password in the company and enable the option for use it as standard password. that way... that will be the automatic password of the company you create
