Just wanted to ask how exactly this mechanic works , had a game where i had a clear lead in value and some ingame years later a guy jumped out of nowhere and surpassed me so fast.

What do I have to keep in mind if i want to increase the value of my company fast to reach a certain goal, e.g hard goal server reach 25 mil company value , in yesterdays game i took forever to reach the goal :/.

It's pretty straight forward:
Company value is price of infrastructure (stations, rails, roads, etc) + price of vehicles + bank ballance - loan.

I am uncertain about vehicles' value - is it current value (they are getting worth less as they age) or is it simply purchase cost but it shouldn't make any big difference either way.

Another thing is there might be some server side modifications to this but I sincerly doubt that.

Heh, I know the way to leap frog to the top regarding CV, i've read an explanation of how to do such, on the boards here, however i think if everyone was to do it, a new rule would probably be made to counter it.

If it is what I think it is, it's already very much against the rules and if we see it happen, it's an instant company reset (or reset of the score if game already ended) and a ban!

Company value works quite logically with one unexpected element.

Precise formula is
company balance - loan
+ Value of all stations
+ (value of all vehicles) * 1.5

You can see that vehicle value is multiplied by 1.5, which does not make any sense.
Also this is why some people called cheaters abuse it in big measure and get banned for it
